Areal Flood Warning

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 400 PM CDT for Lafayette
County...

At 1059 am CDT, emergency management reported that many roads and a
few bridges have either been destroyed, damaged or topped with water
across the southern half of Lafayette County. These include:

Kennedy Road washed out at bull branch.
Culvert washed out on Shawnee Road at Kelsey branch.
Bridge damaged on County Highway I south of New Diggings near the
Illinois state line.
Bridge washed out on County Highway W west of New Diggings.
Buncombe Road still under water near Beebe Road.
Bridge in Darlington on Highway 23 closed due to water.

There were several reports of nearly 9 inches of rain in the New
Diggings area.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Darlington, Shullsburg, Belmont, Benton, Argyle, Somers, Wiota, New
Diggings, South Wayne, Lamont, Gratiot, Platte Mounds, Lead Mine,
Leslie and Woodford.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Pecatonica River at Darlington.
* At 4:15 am Saturday the stage was 14.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 13.5 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 15.9 feet by this
evening. The river will fall below flood stage tomorrow evening.
* Impact... at 15.8 feet... this level is the 20 percent chance flood
meaning that there is a 20 percent chance in any given year of the
river reaching this level. Highways 23 and 81 in Darlington are
flooded as is Main Street. The Lafayette County Fairgrounds are
flooded.

The Flood Warning continues for
the East Branch Pecatonica River near Blanchardville.
* At 4:00 am Saturday the stage was 14.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 14.9 feet by this
morning. The river will fall below flood stage Monday morning.
* Impact... at 14.9 feet... this level is about a 20 percent chance
flood meaning there is a 20 percent chance in any given year of the
river reaching this level. McKellar Park in Blanchardville is
completely flooded including The Swimming Pool and tennis courts.
Floodwaters cover a portion of Highway h.
