Areal Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service in Duluth MN has issued a

* small stream Flood Advisory for...
Ashland County in northwest Wisconsin...
this includes the cities of... Copper Falls State Park... Big Bay
State Park... Ashland...
Bayfield County in northwest Wisconsin...
northwestern Iron County in northwest Wisconsin...
Sawyer County in northwest Wisconsin...
this includes the city of Hayward...
southeastern Washburn County in northwest Wisconsin...

* until 630 am CDT Monday

* at 1032 PM CDT Doppler radar indicated that a broad area with
rainfall of over a half inch with stripes of rainfall of 1 to 2
inches have been observed over portions of Washburn... Sawyer...
Bayfield... Ashland and Iron counties. Thunderstorms have been
repeatedly moving over the same areas... producing these areas of
higher rainfall.

Thunderstorms are slowly moving out of the area so far this
evening... but additional light to moderate rainfall is expected
overnight. By Monday morning... localized rainfall amounts in excess
of 3 inches are possible.

Many creeks... streams and river across portions of northwest
Wisconsin will be high... with ponding of water on roads and roadside
ditches will be filled.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

To report flooding... have the nearest law enforcement agency relay
your report to the National Weather Service forecast office.

... The small stream Flood Advisory remains in effect until 445 am CDT
Monday for northwestern Bayfield and northeastern Douglas counties...

At 1002 PM CDT most of the thunderstorms with heavy rainfall have
moved out of the advisory area. Doppler radar indicates that as much
as 3 inches of rain has fallen generally from Brule northeast along
the higher terrain of the Bayfield peninsula since 7 PM this
evening. Additional light to moderate rainfall will be moving into
the area after 11 PM tonight. Additional rainfall amouonts of up to
a half inch are possible.

Rivers and streams which will be particularly affected... the Bois
Brule river... Brule river... Muskeg creek... Fish Creek... Townsend
creek... Iron River... Kolin creek... flag river... Lenawee creek...
Bark River and Sand River.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water on country roads and
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
