Special Statement

Statement as of 4:39 AM EDT on September 26, 2017

Expires 6:00 AM EDT on September 26, 2017

... High heat index values continue across the area...

Heat index values on Sunday and Monday reached the upper 80s to
lower 90s with isolated mid 90s on Monday, and these same values
will be reached today across northern New York and Vermont. The
heat index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative
humidity is factored in with the air temperature... which will be
reaching record levels today. This will create a greater
likelihood of heat related illnesses... especially when prolonged
exposure or strenuous activity takes place in these conditions.

Anyone with outdoor activities planned today may be more
susceptible to heat related illnesses... especially if you will be
outdoors for an extended period of time or taking part in
strenuous activity. Stay hydrated and take breaks in the
shade... check on elderly family or friends who may not have air
conditioning... and do not leave kids or pets unattended in
vehicles.
