Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the missisquoi river at Swanton.
* Until this evening... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 9:45 am Wednesday the stage was 8.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late Wednesday morning and
continue to rise to near 8.1 feet by Wednesday afternoon. The river
will fall below flood stage by late Wednesday afternoon.
* Impact... at 8.0 feet... water will cover foundry street in Swanton
Village... and enter Marble Mill Park. Water will cover one Lane of
Route 78 downstream in West Swanton... and surround seasonal camps
and enter the back yards of homes along Route 78. In the missisquoi
wildlife management area... louies Landing will flood along with
local access roads. Upstream of Swanton... Waugh farm Road will
become inundated. There will be widespread lowland and field
flooding.

The Flood Warning continues for
the missisquoi river at East Berkshire.
* At 4:45 am Wednesday the stage was 14.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
Wednesday afternoon.
* Impact... at 14.0 feet... widespread flooding of low lying fields and
roadways will occur from Richford to Enosburg. Water will approach
Route 118 at East Berkshire... and Route 105 between Enosburg Falls
and East Berkshire. Yards will be flooded in East Berkshire.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Lake Champlain at Rouses Point.
* From late Thursday night until further notice... or until the
warning is cancelled.
* At 5:00 am Wednesday the stage was 99.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 100.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early Friday morning and
continue to rise to near 100.1 feet by early Friday afternoon.
Additional rises are possible thereafter.
* Impact... at 100.0 feet... water begins to enter some lake front
properties. Water also begins to threaten low lying roads...
piers... and docks. Wave action can compound flooding on windward
facing shorelines.

... Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* all of northern New York and Vermont.

* Through this evening.

* The threat of snowmelt and heavy rain which contributed to
flooding across the area on Tuesday has come to an end.
However... many rivers and streams remain above flood stage and
will continue to remain above flood stage through this
evening.

* Expect field and Road flooding to continue throughout the day.
Watch for closed roads and obey any Road signs near flooded
areas. A few people had to be rescued on Tuesday attempting to
drive through high water. Turn around... don't drown.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop. Never travel
through flooded roadways. Turn around... don't drown.
