Coastal Flood Advisory

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EDT this afternoon...

* location... Hampton Roads locations adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay... lower
James River... York river... and tidal tributaries.

* Timing... expect minor flooding within a few hours either side of the high
tide cycle today.

* Coastal flood impacts... shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable
locations near the Waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of
property damage. Expect around one foot of inundation in low lying,
vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots,
Parks and lawns near the Waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

* Shoreline impacts... breaking waves will result in beach erosion with some
minor damage possible to dune structures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory means that onshore winds... wave action and/or tides
will combine to create flooding of low areas along the shore... and near tidal
rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the possibility of Road closures and minor
flooding of properties. If travel is necessary... do not attempt to drive
through water of unknown depth.

Between 1130 am and noon today, we will conduct a test of the NOAA
all hazards weather radio alarm system. Persons with alarms on their
radios, are asked to ensure that they are turned on, to confirm that
the test was received. Again, the alarm test will be conducted
between 1130 am and noon today. The alarm test may be cancelled
without notice in the event of rapidly developing warning or watch
conditions, which require the Wakefield office to shift into a
higher alert Mode.
