Areal Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in Midland has issued a

* Flood Warning for flooding along the Pecos River
due to heavy rainfall
southwestern Loving County in West Texas...
northwestern Ward County in West Texas...
north central Reeves County in southwest Texas...

* until 600 PM CDT

* at 1210 PM CDT... local emergency management officials continue
to report flooding along the Pecos River from Orla to the city
of Pecos. The river level has receded a little... but mandatory
evacuations are still in effect from the Pecos River to U.S.
Highway 285 in the city of Pecos. Additional evacuations are
being considered there. Emergency management in Loving County
reported minor flooding on the western side of Mentone... where
no evacuations are in in effect at this time. Due to continued
heavy rainfall and runoff along the Pecos River upstream through
southeast New Mexico... flooding along the Pecos River is
expected to continue through tonight.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Pecos River at Malaga 10s.
* From this evening to Tuesday afternoon, or until the warning is
cancelled.
* At 9am Monday the stage was 11.4 feet (3.5 meters).
* Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet (6.1 meters).
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by tonight and continue to rise
to near 20.6 feet (6.3 meters) by after midnight tomorrow. The
river will fall below flood stage by after midnight tomorrow.
* Impact... at 20.0 feet (6.1 meters), the river reaches minor flood
stage, and no significant damage is expected.

This crest compares to a previous crest of 21.7 feet (6.6 meters) on
Sep 19 2014.

* portions of southeast New Mexico and Texas... including the
following areas... in southeast New Mexico... central Lea
County... Eddy County plains... Guadalupe Mountains of Eddy
County... northern Lea County and southern Lea County. In
Texas... Crane... Davis/Apache Mountains area... Guadalupe
Mountains... Loving... Pecos... Reeves County and upper trans
Pecos... Van Horn and Highway 54 corridor... Ward and Winkler.

* Through this afternoon

* an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible in the watch
area today... with isolated amounts of up to 4 inches possible.

* Flooding of rivers... creeks... arroyos... low water crossings
and city streets will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
With saturated soils... runoff can cause flash flooding quickly.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
