The National Weather Service in Midland has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
central Culberson County in southwest Texas...

* until 215 am CDT/115 am MDT/

* at 815 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar detected
scattered thunderstorms producing very heavy rainfall across
open country of central portions of Culberson County. Heavy
rainfall is also expected in locations along and near Highway
54 north of Van Horn to Pine Springs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flash flooding of creeks and streams... low water crossings...
normally dry washes and arroyos... and low lying farmland is likely.
Do not drive across flooded roads.

... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1045 PM MDT/1145 PM
CDT/ for southern eddy... northeastern Culberson and extreme
northwestern Reeves counties...

At 516 PM MDT... heavy rain was reported across Eddy County. Four
feet of flowing water was reported about 7 miles northwest of
Carlsbad on 137.

Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Salt Lake...
Lake Avalon... Cavern City Air Terminal... Carlsbad north... Brantley
Lake State Park... Otis... Malaga... Loving... Lakewood... Carlsbad and
Avalon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flash flooding of creeks and streams... streets and underpasses... low
water crossings... and low lying farmland is likely. Do not drive
across flooded roads.

east central Culberson County in southwest Texas...

* until 930 PM CDT

* at 634 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists detected
moderate to heavy rain near Pecos on I-10.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

area... Dawson... Ector... Gaines... Glasscock... Guadalupe
Mountains... Howard... Loving... Martin... Midland... Mitchell...
Pecos... Reagan... Reeves County and upper trans Pecos...
Scurry... Upton... Van Horn and Highway 54 corridor... Ward and
Winkler.

* Through Monday morning

* an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible in the watch
area today... with isolated amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible...
particularly in southeast New Mexico as well as the central and
northern Permian Basin.

* Flooding of rivers... creeks... arroyos... low water crossings
and city streets will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
With saturated soils... runoff can cause flash flooding quickly.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
