... Flood Warning extended until Sunday morning... the Flood Warning
continues for
the North Fork of the Red River 2 miles north of Shamrock.
* Until Sunday morning... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 1:45 PM Saturday the stage was 5.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 5.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to
rise to near 7.0 feet by this evening. The river will fall below
flood stage by early Sunday morning.
* Impact... at 8.0 feet... significant farm and ranch land flooding
occurs. Cattle and farm equipment losses are possible.
* Flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 8.5 feet
on Jun 3 1995.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
Collingsworth County in the Panhandle of Texas...
Wheeler County in the Panhandle of Texas...

* until 1230 am CDT

* at 817 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists detected a
thunderstorm with heavy rainfall 5 miles northeast of Dozier... or 5
miles southwest of Shamrock. Very heavy rain has already fallen
over parts of the advisory area with additional heavy rain
expected. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding
to occur... especially along small streams and near low water
crossings.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Wellington... Shamrock... Samnorwood...
Quail... Lutie... Dozier...
Wheeler... Twitty... New Mobeetie...
Lela... Kellerville... Briscoe...
Mobeetie...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of
rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle. Turn
around... dont drown.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 am CDT Sunday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for the eastern Texas and Oklahoma panhandles

* portions of Oklahoma and Texas... including the following
areas... in Oklahoma... Beaver. In Texas... Collingsworth...
Donley... gray... Hemphill... Lipscomb... Ochiltree... Roberts and
Wheeler.

* Until 1 am CDT Sunday

* scattered to thunderstorms will move across the eastern parts of
the combined panhandles this afternoon and this evening. Heavy rain
is expected with these storms... with localized rainfall amounts of
1 to 3 inches expected across the watch area. This additional heavy
rain on top of already saturated soils will likely lead to flooding
or flash flooding.

* Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

A record rainfall of 2.06 inches was set at Amarillo today. This
breaks the old record of 1.05 set in 1908. With additional rainfall
possible before midnight tonight... the final total may be higher.
The final record for today will be issued after 100 am CDT on may
24th.
