Areal Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in Reno has extended the

* Flood Warning for small streams in...
southern Washoe County in western Nevada...

* until 615 PM PST

* at 301 PM PST, flows on Dog Valley creek and Hunter Creek have
increased again as a period of heavy rain moves through the Mogul
area. The threat for flooding remains near creeks, streams,
drainage ditches and pasture lands through this evening. Rainfall
will begin to diminish after 4 PM and is forecast to come to an
end by 7 PM.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Verdi, Mogul and Interstate 80.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Flooding
over roads is more difficult to see at night. Those traveling in the
area after sunset should use caution and be aware of water running
over roads.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
southern Washoe County in western Nevada...
western Carson City in western Nevada...

* until 530 PM PST

* at 225 PM PST, emergency management officials and weather spotters
continue to report areas of flooding in urban areas and pasture
lands from south Reno through Washoe Valley. Some flooding may
also occur near creeks and drainage ditches heading into the west
side of Carson City.

* Rainfall amounts of 3.5 to 4.5 inches have been reported along the
eastern slope of the Carson Range so far today. An additional inch
of rain may occur before the rainfall ends early this evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Be
especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Sierra County in northern California...
Nevada County in northern California...
southern Washoe County in western Nevada...
Douglas County in western Nevada...
western Carson City in western Nevada...

* until 445 PM PST

* at 1220 PM PST, moderate to heavy rain persists across the Lake
Tahoe basin and the Reno, Carson City and Minden area of western
Nevada. The threat for minor flooding near creeks, streams,
drainage ditches, pastures and urban areas will continue into late
afternoon. Rainfall is forecast to quickly diminish after 4 PM and
should end by midnight.

* High flows on rivers, creeks and streams will begin to recede
this evening.

* Ponding of water on roads with rock and mud slides is impacting
travel around the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and
streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other drainage areas and low lying spots.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of east central California and western Nevada,
including the following areas, in east central California,
greater Lake Tahoe area. In western Nevada, greater Lake Tahoe
area and greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area.

* Through this evening

* heavy rain from an an atmospheric river will continue across the
northern Sierra and Lake Tahoe basin through this afternoon.
Snow levels should remain near 8000 feet, but some spotters have
reported accumulating snow around the Tahoe basin as low as
6500 feet.

* The greatest threat for flooding is near small creeks, streams,
and recently burned slopes such as the Little Valley fire. Rock
and mud slides are likely near steep terrain.

* Flooding has been reported in the Mogul area so far today. Rock,
mud slides and ponding of water is impacting travel on
Interstate 80.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Small creeks and streams are the most susceptible to flooding.
Excessive rainfall may also generate rock and mud slides in steep
terrain. Persons living along small creeks and streams should
monitor the latest weather information at weather.Gov/Reno and be
prepared to take action should flooding occur.

... Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 am PST Sunday for
Lake Tahoe...

* timing: winds will continue through this afternoon.

* Winds: southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph.

* Wave heights: 2 to 4 feet.

* Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to
capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions
improve.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a
sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing
boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.

Heavy precipitation continues to fall around the Lake Tahoe
basin, with snow levels fluctuating between from 6500 to 8000
feet. Some area passes have become snow covered, including Mount
Rose, Brockway, Spooner, and Kingsbury summits. Additional snow
amounts of 6 to 10 inches are possible for elevations above 8000
feet, with several inches of snow down to 7000 feet.

Donner and echo summits are currently wet with no controls, but
its possible that we could see light snow accumulations up to a
couple inches later this afternoon.

If you have travel plans today or tonight to head over the passes
around Lake Tahoe, make sure to check for Road conditions before
you leave and allow for extra time to reach your destinations.
