Areal Flood Advisory

Statement as of 3:37 PM PDT on June 23, 2017

Expires 6:15 PM EDT on June 29, 2017

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* flood advisory for...
snowmelt in...
Douglas County in western Nevada...
southern Lyon County in west central Nevada...

* until 315 PM PDT Thursday

* flows will increase along the east Walker River due to increased
releases from Bridgeport Reservoir over the next few days. These
releases are required to create space for increased snowmelt
runoff into the Reservoir. This increase in flow will likely lead
to minor flooding along the east Walker River, especially the
lower reaches from the area of strosnider ditch to the confluence.

* On the west Walker River, elevated flows will continue through the
weekend, but these flows will decrease early next week as
temperatures cool back to near normal. Minor flooding in the lower
parts of Antelope Valley is expected to continue through early
next week. High flows will also continue through Wilson Canyon.

* If Reservoir operations are changed on Topaz Lake next week and
less water is diverted into the lake, there is a possibility that
flows will increase down the Main Channel of the west Walker
River. This could lead to more extensive flooding from the
Antelope Valley downstream through Smith Valley and Wilson Canyon.
If flows increase we will likely need to upgrade the advisory to a
warning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated.
