The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
eastern De Baca County in east central New Mexico...
northeastern Guadalupe County in east central New Mexico...
southeastern San Miguel County in northeastern New Mexico...
southwestern Quay County in east central New Mexico...
northwestern Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico...
south central Harding County in northeastern New Mexico...

* until 415 am MDT

* at 208 am MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain due to slow-moving thunderstorms. Estimated rainfall
amounts of one to two inches have fallen over much of the advisory
area within the past couple of hours... and soils have become
saturated from earlier rainfall. Excessive runoff and some
standing water is expected with fast flowing water filling small
creeks and arroyos feeding into the Canadian and Pecos basins.

* Locations impacted include...
Tucumcari... Fort Sumner... Quay... house... Conchas Dam... Montoya...
Sumner Lake... Tolar... Conchas and Sumner Lake State Park.

This includes Interstate 40 between mile markers 299 and 340.

Other locations affected include Conchas Dam and Fort Sumner State
Monument.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to tell how much
water is on the Road... do not drive through fast moving water of
unknown depth.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of north and central nm... including the following
areas... Central Highlands... Curry County... De Baca County... east
slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains... eastern San Miguel County...
far northeast Highlands... Guadalupe County... Harding County...
northeast Highlands... northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500
feet/Red River... Quay County... Raton ridge/Johnson Mesa...
Roosevelt County... southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet...
Union County and west slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

* Through late tonight

* a very moist air mass remains in place over eastern New Mexico.
Soil moisture levels are very moist. Locally heavy rain is still
possible the rest of the overnight. Expect hourly rainfall rates
with the stronger storms between 0.75 to 1.5 inches with
locally higher amounts.

* Flash flooding will be most susceptible around steep
terrain/urban drainages... and areas that recently experienced
heavy rainfall. Some minor flooding is also possible on
tributaries leading to main Stem rivers across eastern New
Mexico.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
