Flash Flood Warning

Statement as of 11:36 PM MDT on July 27, 2014

Expires 2:45 AM EDT on July 28, 2014

... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1245 am MDT for
southeastern Rio Arriba... northeastern Sandoval and northwestern Los
Alamos counties...

At 1130 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate thunderstorms producing light to moderate rain crossing
Santa Clara Canyon from the south. Radar estimated the headwaters of
Santa Clara creek already received 1 to over 2 inches of rain. This
water may take well into the late night hours to reach the Rio
Grande. A dangerous rise is still expected on Santa Clara creek.
Stay out of this drainage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flash floods. If flash flooding is observed... move to
higher ground.

Areal Flood Advisory

Statement as of 9:07 PM MDT on July 27, 2014

Expires 3:00 AM EDT on July 28, 2014

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Los Alamos County in north central New Mexico
southeastern Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico
east central Sandoval County in north central New Mexico
northwestern Santa Fe County in north central New Mexico

* until 100 am MDT

* at 905 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
numerous slow-moving thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall over
a large area of the eastern side of the Jemez Mountains. Surface
observations and radar indicated rainfall rates between three
quarters of an inch and 1 inch over portions of the Las Conchas
burn scar... particularly Santa Clara Canyon. Additional storms
moving northwest onto the burn scar will enhance the potential
for flooding through the early morning hours.

This will impact the Las Conchas burn scar including but not
limited to Los Alamos... Santa Clara Canyon... Rio del Oso... Camp may
Road... quemazan trail... Highway 4 from State Road 501 Junction to
Las Conchas campground... Indian service Route 602... Bandelier
National Monument... Frijoles Canyon... Cochiti Canyon... Peralta
Canyon... Dome Wilderness and eastern portion of Valles Caldera.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn scars.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Runoff from rainfall will cause elevated water levels within
vulnerable drainages in and downstream of the Las Conchas fire burn
area.

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
