Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 9:30 PM EDT on May 27, 2018

Expires 8:00 AM EDT on May 29, 2018

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from 1 am EDT Monday
through Tuesday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of central North Carolina, including the following
areas, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Edgecombe,
Franklin, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore,
Nash, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, wake,
Wayne, and Wilson.

* From 1 am EDT Monday through Tuesday morning

* showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain will spread
north into the area on Monday morning. Periods of heavy rain
are expected during the day Monday into the overnight hours
with an average of one to three inches of rain expected.

* A very moist air mass will be in place across the area,
resulting in showers and thunderstorms capable of producing
very heavy rain with high rainfall rates. In addition, after
several weeks of intermittent rainfall, soil conditions are
wetter than normal in many locations and this will result in
more efficient water runoff. Heavy rain will potentially
leading to flash flooding near creeks, streams, poor drainage
areas, and some urban areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should
flash flood warnings be issued.
