Flood Warning

Statement as of 10:05 AM EDT on April 23, 2017

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Haw River near Bynum.
* From Tuesday morning to Wednesday evening, or until the warning is
cancelled.
* At 8:45 am Sunday the stage was 3.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river is expected to rise above flood stage by
Tuesday morning and continue to rise to near 12.1 feet by Tuesday
evening.
* Impact... at 11.0 feet, the river widens up to 400 feet across. It
floods pasturelands on the right bank and Woodlands on the left.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Deep River at Moncure.
* From Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning, or until the warning
is cancelled.
* At 8:45 am Sunday the stage was 1.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river is expected to rise above flood stage by
Tuesday early afternoon and continue to rise to near 9.3 feet by
Tuesday early afternoon.
* Impact... at 9.0 feet, minor flood stage. Flooding is likely
upstream of the gage site along north plank Road just south of
Highway 421 in Lee County, and on r Jordan Road north of Highway
421 in Chatham County. At the gage site, flooding reaches the
base of the river gage housing, but is confined to Woods and
pasture immediately adjacent to the river.

Areal Flood Watch

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* all of central North Carolina, including the following counties,
Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham,
Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax,
Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange,
person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance,
wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson.

* Through Tuesday morning

* widespread rain will continue tonight. The rain will become
heavy, especially in the Piedmont later tonight. The heavy rain
will spread east across all the region on Monday and Monday
night. Storm total rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are
expected.

* The long duration of the rain through Monday night or Tuesday
morning will saturate the ground. Periods of heavy rain will
lead to rapid runoff, likely producing flooding of creeks and
streams. Main Stem rivers will likely see significant rises in
the water levels by Monday, including the Yadkin, haw, Neuse,
tar, Roanoke, and Cape Fear.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for
possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding
should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
