Wednesday...

* what... snow and blowing snow occurring. Very cold wind chills
expected. Plan on slippery and icy Road conditions. In
addition, areas of poor visibility are expected. Additional snow
accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected. Total snow
accumulations of 3-5 inches in western Greenbrier County, 2 to 4
inches in Summers and Mercer counties in southeast West
Virginia, and 1 to 3 inches in Ashe and Watauga counties in
northwest North Carolina. Expect wind chills to range from 5
above zero to 10 below zero.

* Where... in North Carolina, Ashe and Watauga counties. In West
Virginia, Mercer, Summers and western Greenbrier counties.

* When... for the Winter Weather Advisory, until 7 am EST
Wednesday. For the Wind Chill Advisory, from overnight to 9 am
EST Wednesday.

* Additional details... winds gusting as high as 50 mph will
cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. The cold wind chills
will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed
skin.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered
roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
The latest Road conditions for the state you are calling from can
be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will
combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can
occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 am EST Wednesday...

* locations... along and adjacent to the Blue Ridge.

* Hazards... strong wind gusts.

* Winds... northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* Timing... overnight through early Wednesday morning. The
strongest winds will occur tonight.

* Impacts... traveling will be difficult for higher profile
vehicles. Some weaker or dead trees could be uprooted, with
limbs also likely to break. Isolated power outages possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use extra
caution until the winds subside.

Intervals of light to moderate-intensity snow will continue
tonight. While snow will not be persistent, travelers can expect
rapid changes in visibility along with a coating of wet snow on
asphalt. This will lead to potential travel difficulties at times.
Later tonight... falling temperatures through the 20s will freeze
any snow or wet pavement, making for slippery travel.

Travelers tonight are advised to be aware for sudden changes in
visibility, as low as one half mile at times, and to drive slowly
in rapidly changing weather conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 am Wednesday
morning for western Greenbrier County in southeast West Virginia,
and in Ashe and Watauga counties in northwestern North Carolina.
