The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
southwestern Tangipahoa Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Livingston Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Assumption Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
St. James Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
southeastern Iberville Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
south central East Baton Rouge Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Ascension Parish in southeastern Louisiana...

* until 1230 PM CDT

* at 932 am CDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause Urban and Small Stream flooding in
the advisory area. Radar estimated around 3 inches of rain near
geismer and Denham Springs. This activity will spread east across
the advisory area through noon.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Denham Springs... Gonzales... Donaldsonville... Napoleonville... Belle
River... St. Gabriel... Walker... Gramercy... Lutcher... White Castle...
Livingston... Sorrento... French Settlement... Albany... Port Vincent...
supreme... north Vacherie... Belle Rose... Convent and Shenandoah.

Additional rainfall of one to two inches is expected over the area.
This additional rain will make minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi...
including the following areas... in southeast Louisiana...
Ascension... Assumption... East Baton Rouge... East Feliciana...
Iberville... Livingston... northern Tangipahoa... Orleans...
Pointe Coupee... southern Tangipahoa... St. Charles... St.
Helena... St. James... St. John The Baptist... St. Tammany...
upper Jefferson... upper Lafourche... upper Plaquemines... upper
St. Bernard... upper Terrebonne... Washington... West Baton Rouge
and West Feliciana. In southern Mississippi... Amite... Pike...
Walthall and Wilkinson.

* Until 7 PM CDT this evening

* an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain over portions of the watch
area with isolated amounts in excess of 6 inches possible.

* Primary impacts will be flash flooding of low lying locations
especially in urban areas with poor drainage or along low
lying rural roads. Flooding of streams... creeks and bayous can
be expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Lafourche... northwestern St. Charles... southern Washington... St.
Tammany... Tangipahoa... eastern Livingston... east central
Assumption... St. James... St. John The Baptist and east central
Ascension parishes...

At 1002 am CDT... radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from near Independence to 6 miles south of
Springfield to near Bayou Geneve. Movement was east at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail are possible with these
storms.

Locations impacted include...
Hammond... Thibodaux... Bogalusa... Covington... LaPlace... Hahnville... Reserve...
Ponchatoula... Gramercy... Lutcher... Abita Springs... Independence... Albany...
Madisonville... Folsom... Springfield... sun... Robert... Bush and south
Vacherie.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms... and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
