... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening.

* Excessive heat and humidity are expected to develop again
this afternoon.

* Air temperatures will peak in the lower to middle 90s again this
afternoon. These temperatures will combine with high humidity
to produce afternoon heat index values from 100 to 105.

* This prolonged period of extreme heat and humidity will
continue to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time
outside. When possible... reschedule strenuous activities to
early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting
clothing when possible... and drink plenty of water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
neighbors. Make sure outside pets have plenty of water.

... Air quality alert in effect until midnight CDT Thursday night...

The Evansville environmental protection agency... the Vanderburgh
County health department and the Indiana department of environmental
management have issued an particulate alert... in effect until
midnight CDT Thursday night.

A code Orange air quality alert for particulates has been issued. Ambient
concentrations of fine particulate matter may reach or exceed the
level of the National ambient air quality standards for
particulates.

The outdoor particulate concentration of fine particulate matter
of 2.5 micrometers in diameter or less may reach the unhealthy
category for sensitive groups of people.

People considered most sensitive to particulate matter include
children... teenagers... older adults... and those with heart or
lung disease. For people with heart disease... short term
exposures have been linked to heart attacks and arrhythmia's.
Healthy children and adults have not reported to suffer serious
effects from short term exposure... although they may experience
temporary minor irritation when particle levels are elevated.

Particulate concentration can be high anytime of the day or night.

To minimize health effects... reduce prolonged and heavy exertion.
It is OK to be active outside... but take more break and do less
intense activities. Watch for symptoms such as coughing or
shortness of breath. For people with asthma... follow your action
plan and keep quick relief medicine nearby. For people with heart
disease... contact your health provider if you experience symptoms
such as shortness of breath... palpitations... or unusual fatigue.

No open burning is allowed during particulate alerts.
