Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement

Statement as of 3:34 AM EDT on October 21, 2017

Expires 6:00 AM EDT on October 22, 2017

... Coastal flood advisory in effect until 6 am EDT Monday...
... High rip current risk now in effect through late tonight...

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a coastal
flood advisory, which is in effect until 6 am EDT Monday.

* Coastal flooding... minor tidal flooding is expected around times
of high tide within the St. Johns River basin and its
tributaries.

* Timing... elevated water levels will continue through the weekend
along the St Johns River. High risk for rip currents through
tonight.

* Impacts... river and creek flooding around the times of high tide
will cause minor flooding of mainly Parks, campgrounds, docks
and boat ramps. Strong rip currents are expected at area
beaches.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the St Johns
River basin.

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents will be life threatening.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach patrol.
Pay attention to flags and posted signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current remain calm.
Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction following the
shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave
for help. If tired, float or tread water until out of the rip
current.
